US fees as of Oct 7, 2026, from Etsy's fee page and Etsy's payment processing page. Every rate is editable if Etsy changes one.
How it works
Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus the shipping you charge, but not on US sales tax. Payment processing for a US bank account is 3% of everything the buyer paid, sales tax included, plus $0.25 an order. Each sale also carries a $0.20 listing fee, because a listing with more than one in stock renews for $0.20 after each sale.
If Etsy attributes the order to one of its Offsite Ads, it adds 15% of the item price plus shipping, or 12% once a shop has made $10,000 or more in sales over the prior 365 days. That fee never goes over $100 on one order.
Each fee is rounded to the cent. What is left after the fees is your payout. Take away the item cost and the shipping label and you have the profit on the sale. Margin is that profit divided by the item price plus shipping.
A worked example
Take an 8 oz soy candle listed at $24 with $5.50 shipping charged, $10.20 of materials, packaging and making time, and a $6.25 label. Etsy's fees come to $3.26: $1.92 transaction fee, $1.14 payment processing and the $0.20 listing fee. Etsy pays out $26.24 and the sale makes $9.79, a 33.2% margin. If the same order came through an Offsite Ad at 15%, another $4.43 comes off and profit drops to $5.36. These are the inputs for the 8 oz candle in the example shop inside the True Profit System for Etsy Sellers workbook, which shows $9.80 because it does not round each fee to the cent.
Every listing, every order, every payout
The True Profit System for Etsy Sellers workbook uses this same maths for Excel and Google Sheets: true profit and an OK, WATCH or REPRICE flag on every listing, the list price that hits the profit you want, an order log, a payout check to the cent and a tax reserve. $2.99, instant download.
Questions
What fees does Etsy take from a sale?
For a US seller: a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, payment processing of 3% plus $0.25 on the total the buyer paid, and a $0.20 listing fee. Orders Etsy attributes to Offsite Ads add 15% or 12%, up to $100.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The transaction fee and payment processing both apply to the shipping you charge, so moving shipping into the item price does not change those two fees.
Why is a listing fee counted on every sale?
A listing costs $0.20 to publish, and a listing with more than one in stock renews for another $0.20 after each sale. So each sale carries one listing fee.
I sell from outside the US. Does this work?
Yes, if you type your own rates. Etsy's payment processing fee depends on the country of your bank account.
Is this tax or financial advice?
No. It is a planning estimate based on the numbers you enter.
