Here are the biggest, the builders running the most of them, and the buildings with partial occupancy approved. How to use this list
Start with the builders, not the buildings. A general contractor with several big jobs open hires subcontractors on each one, so getting on one builder's vendor list can put you in front of many projects.
Call the builder's main office and ask who buys cleaning for the project you name. Have the permit number and the address ready.
Send a one-page capability sheet the same day: what you clean, crew size, insurance, equipment and two references.
Watch the stage. Permit just issued is early, inspections under way means work is moving, and partial occupancy approved means the City has already cleared parts of the building for use.
Price the work before you call:

Questions
Where does this data come from?
The City of Chicago Data Portal's Building Permits dataset, which the City updates daily, Monday to Saturday. We pull it every Monday and keep permits issued in the last 12 months for apartment buildings of 4 or more homes and commercial work with a reported cost of $500,000 or more that are still open and list a business as general contractor.
Why are some big projects missing?
Permits with no business listed as general contractor, owner-builder permits, houses and 2 to 3 flats, and permits marked complete, suspended or cancelled are left out. This free page shows a sample; the weekly list covers every project that passes the filter.
Is the reported cost the contract value?
No. It is the cost the applicant filed with the City for the permit. Treat it as a size signal, not a budget.
Do you contact the builders for me?
No. You make your own calls and emails. We never contact builders or anyone else on your behalf.
Does any builder here work with ProofNotFluff?
No. Builders appear because their names are on public City permits. None has endorsed or works with ProofNotFluff.
Will you cover other cities?
Chicago first. Other large cities publish permit data too, so the waitlist decides where we go next.
